Amanda Carine Barbosa Rodrigues, the wife of former boxing champion Arturo Gatti, was detained as a suspect by Brazilian authorities Sunday following his death at a well known seaside resort. Gatti's body was found early Saturday in a hotel room at Dorisol, in the Porto de Galinhas resort in northeastern Brazil.
Porto de Galinhas is one of the most famous beaches in Brazil, a popular vacation spot for domestic travelers.
Amanda Carine Barbosa Rodrigues, who has a 1-year-old son with Gatti, is a former stripper. She has been charged in Gatti's death.
The sexy wife of the dead boxer wore sunglasses that did much to disguise her expression while walking towards the police car under the eyes of reporters and passers-by.
The police confirmed that the Canadian boxer was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse. Rodrigues, a Brazilian national, could not explain how she spent nearly 10 hours in the room without noticing that the former junior welterweight champion was already dead.
The police are currently investigating and more information will probably be available shortly.
